1. What is the difference between Perfume, Eau de Perfume(EDP), Eau de Toilette(EDT), etc..?
The differences are a reflection of the concentration of oils in the fragrance. These oils are called "juice". The highest concentration of juice is in perfume/parfum. The next highest concentration is in Eau de Parfum(EDP), then Eau de Toilette(EDT) and Eau de Cologne in decreasing concentrations of "juice". Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne are generally interchangeable, especially in Men's Fragrances. The higher the concentration of "juice", the longer your scent will last and the less you need to apply.
2. How can I make my scent last longer and why do some scents last longer than others?
Most fragrances are designed to last about 4 hours.People with dry skin usually find that their fragrance lasts longer than those with oily skin because oily skin has more natural moisture to hold in the scent. pH levels(the amount of acidity) of our skin also determines how each ingredient in the fragrance will react. To achieve a longer lasting effect, try layering your fragrance. Start with the fragrance bath gel(if it has one), then apply the moisturizer or powder, and finally the Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette or Eau de Cologne. Also, apply the fragrance low on your body as well the ears and neck so that the scent rises. A light spray on the hair can last all day.
3. What do fragrance notes refer to?
Fragrances are composed of many different scents, called "notes". Top notes are very light and last around 5-10 minutes. Middle notes become apparent about 15 minutes after application and can last up to an hour. Bottom notes are the heaviest ingredients and last the longest, usually for several hours.
4. Where is the best place to apply my fragrance?
Fragrance should be applied to pulse points, where blood vessels are closest to the skin, therefore giving off more heat and allowing the fragrance to spread. Examples of pulse points are the wrist, behind the ear, the base of the throat and the crook of the arm/leg.
5. How should I store and handle my fragrance?
Keep fragrances in a cool, dry place. Sunlight can cause an imbalance of the fragrance's ingredients. Fragrances should be kept away from extreme heat or cold. The cap should be closed tightly to maintain fragrance integrity and prevent evaporation. An unopened bottle should be kept in its box to prolong shelf life. Fragrances usually last about 3 years from the date they were manufactured.
